Bring your dancing shoes and your favorite partner!Cover charge - $10 (cash only) Comprised of an all-star roster of Nashville's leading jazz and world-music artists, El Movimiento, or "ElMo" as the band is affectionately referred to by its hometown fans, has in a few short years established itself as a true sensation on the Music City's jazz scene. The septet's powerful, fun and unique performances are the result of a multi-cultural collaboration between the band's three co-leaders - each an accomplished instrumentalist and composer - saxophonist and founder of the Jazz Music City record label Rahsaan Barber, Dominican percussionist Giovanni Rodriguez, and Puerto-Rican trumpeter Imer Santiago.El Movimiento emerged modestly from a gathering of Nashville's young, forward-thinking musicians joining weekly to play music that transcended categorization to coalesce into one of the gems of Nashville's jazz scene, bringing the sounds of Latin Jazz to a city few would associate with the genre. The septet has strengthened its following by satisfying both the discerning ears of both traditional Latin Jazz fans nation-wide as well as by earning the support of the younger listeners raised on the sounds of contemporary jazz and popular music. In March of 2010, El Movimiento released its debut CD, The Movement, and garnered national support both from music critics as well as the United States jazz radio network. The record became an overnight fixture on the national radio charts, spending two months in the CMJ World Music Charts Top 10, as well as appearing on both the CMJ Jazz Top 40 and JazzWeek Top 50 charts. With a global approach to music-making, El Movimiento offers listeners an aural vacation that incorporates the best elements of African- and Latin-American music from the United States, the Dominican Republic, Brazil, Argentina, Cuba and Puerto Rico. http://www.elmojazz.com/http://www.reverbnation.com/elmojazz
