The house band is cooking with a full horn section, upright bass and barrel-house piano. They’re laying down a number by Gershwin. The ecstatic crowd on the dance floor is creating a fury, twirling everywhere, swing dancing, and singing over the band as the they pound out another classic. You saunter up to the bar. The barkeep asks “what’ll ya have?” and you buy your first drink. The room seems timeless, the band has the place jumping, and you slowly realize you’re not quite sure what decade it is anymore.
